Myth Busters

An invitation to a video lecture with Miko Peled

We already know the truth, but we freely choose to ignore it, because it’s easier to do so, and our governments, with Israel, tell us we are bad people if we reject Israel’s narrative regarding their oppression of the Palestinian people. Palestinians are bad people, heck, they’re not even people, they’re lower than animals and should not be mentioned in the same sentence as human-beings. Why must these people endure such suffering? Why do we condone this behaviour? What the hell is wrong with us?

South African Apartheid was wrong. Slavery was wrong. Ethnic Cleansing in Jugoslavia was wrong. The Holocaust was wrong. Israel’s eternal occupation and racist dominion over Palestinians is wrong.

Under threat of being labelled anti-semitic I continue to reject Israel’s inhumane occupation and racist domination of the Palestinian people, and I invite anyone with a heart, or an ounce of decency to watch this video by Miko Peled, the son of a former Israeli general. Find the time to care. Please.

For the Palestinians everyday isn’t Christmas; everyday is Hell.

This was really good. We share the same sentiments on the matter.

  2. I have never understood, other than an emotional aversion to criticism of groups, how people can conflate Israel (a state) with Jews (people.) They are not the same thing. It’s like saying critiques of American government policy and culture are racist against whites, blacks, Asians, Jews, Muslims, Latinos etc. Additionally, not everyone living in Israel is a Jewish person, nor do all Jewish persons live in Israel.

Not being able to criticize a government because it’s “automatically ethnically or otherwise prejudiced” should raise alarm bells in any rational person’s mind.

The alarm bells have been ringing for over 60yrs; noone is listening. Israel is exempt from all laws that govern humanity. Every form of dissent – Palestinian, Jewish, Gentile – is smothered by Israel and its friends(us). We’re all complicit in these crimes against the Palestinians; we do nothing(out of fear).

      • I fully agree, and we can’t rely on governments or figureheads to do it for us. I’m sincerely sorry to say that I’m caught up in my own (comparatively petty but still paralyzing) struggles and have little to offer Palestinians beyond largely symbolic gestures of support, and speak out where I can. I think that is one of the most effective things the state has done in the US, which is to light a thousand fires around us and watch us struggle as we go from one, to the next, barely keeping ourselves from being consumed by the flame. Thank you for having the courage to post this article.

Israel does not occupy the Gaza strip. In 2005, it removed all military forces and all Jewish settlers from there. As a thank you from Palestinians, Israel received hundreds of rocket and mortar attacks every year from Gaza. As another thank you, in 2006 a plurality of Gazans voted for HAMAS, a recognized terrorist organization with a charter that sets destruction of Israel as one of its goals. Israel did set up a blockade of Gaza, but that was not established until 2007. Now, as much as Israel may want to end the occupation of West Bank (I doubt they derive much enjoyment out of it either), the Gaza example had set the peace process back years, if not decades. As long as Palestinians refuse to accept Israel as a Jewish state (by the way, they still have not, even after 60 years), and continue to launch rockets at it, Israel will continue to retaliate against them and occupy the West Bank.

    • lexborgia says:

Guess you need to write a rebuttal post: “Why Jewish/Israeli racism against Palestinians is justified.’ Miko is probably just another self-hating Jew, right! Gaza: Israel withdrew from the strip but did not leave, like a warden who sets the prisoners free by letting them govern themselves while still locked up. IOR: if your argument is ‘my people’ are racist occupiers and land grabbers because the neighbours don’t like us;’ then that’s sad.
And setting up a starvation blockade against a territory because you dont like the winner of a democratic election is morally justifiable, I agree with you there. BTW, the ‘let’s kill 100 of theirs for each one of ours is outdated, I think it needs to rise to 1000:1! Don’t you? When evil becomes right, we’re in big trouble.

First of all, thank you for allowing me to be part of the Galactic High Council. I’m nerd enough to appreciate and acknowledge this great honor.
Second, thanks for making your presence in this galaxy known to me. This is without a doubt one of the most creative AND insightful sites I’ve ever come across. It’s very daring, honest and confronting…with a nice touch of satire and humor thrown into the mix. The word ‘brilliant’ comes to mind.

This piece in particular struck a chord with me. I’m not Jewish or Palestine, but I’ve never been able to grasp the way Israel treats Palestines, if only for the irony of it (you’d think that if there’s one people that know about suppression it’s Israelites)…great job on pointing out what I believe many more already think. For what it’s worth: anti-semitism is not part of the equation as far as I can tell…

Welcome aboard, Captain van Nerel. Discovering your fine ship was an immense pleasure; I actually listened to St. Matthew’s Passion after reading your post, but like everywhere else I didn’t find God there.
The Palestinian affair continuously baffles me: the dehumanisation of Palestinians by the entire Non-Arabic world, such levels of inhumanity, oppression and suffering being inflicted by people who should be protectors of the weak and oppressed; I feel so ashamed. What is apparent is the fear in people to speak out. But I will continue to.
Will be dropping by yours repeatedly. Thanks for the visit. Cheers.
